Example: japan has three different languages for different words: kanji (typical characters), hiragana (japanese words), katakana (foreign words) Should parents have the freedom to pick their child"s name? should there be limitations ie adolf hitler. In multilingual societies, there are different ways to deal with linguistic diversity. New mexico has everything in english & spanish, not officially declared. 1830 gained independence because was catholic while netherlands was. Religious identity and economy vs linguistic identity. French becomes lingua franca and language of education. French, walloon & picard in the south. Dutch, west flemish, east flemish & brabantian in the north.
