Contributes significantly to the economy, with over billion dollars. South african government is looking to modify its intellectual property laws after indian laws to help progress. India plays an important role in fighting hiv/aids as it is the producer of major portion of the hiv. Hepatitis b virus is becoming a major issue affecting a significant portion of indian population and the patent laws allows for cheap production of the necessary drugs, making it affordable for all masses alike. By changing the patent laws, many developing countries that depend on the indian pharmaceutical industry for the drugs may suffer crisis.
