Social movement theory, post-structuralism, feminism, and critical thought have broadened our understanding of power. Heightens our sensitivity to how politics take place in the home, office and market place. Work outside the margins of governmental activity in their efforts to alleviate global environmental problems. They create conditions that direct the actions of other within a world context. Transnational environmental groups address problems by heightening worldwide concern for the environment. Persuade numbers of people to care about and take actions to protest the earth"s ecosystem. Toxic substances, energy and atmosphere, nuclear issues, and ocean and terrestrial ecology. Ex: focuses on reprocessing and dumping of nuclear material, sea-based nuclear weapons and nuclear testing. Operate in an ideational context that motivates people not to damage the environment. People process experience into action through general conceptions or interpretations of the world. Greenpeace targets already established norms to change the way people act that is negatively affecting the earth.
