Tour Planning
1. Have a solid local following before branching out.
2. Start the planning process 4-6 months out.
3. Plot out the cities you want to hit.
4. Distinguish hopefuls (held dates), leads (tentative bookings), and confirmed shows in
your planning calendar and map.
a. Don’t forget to consider house shows and colleges!
5. Start compiling a list of appropriate venues (for your genre/audience size) in each city.
6. Start making the pitches.
7. Start promoting your appearances in each local market, 2 months out.
Zooming In
● Identify at least 5 venues
● Categorize by featured genre/capacity/typical ticket pricing
● Tag ideal venues for your artist

● Prepare an ideal tour route for your artist
● Can be national or international, but must have a minimum of 10 destinations
● Plot your destinations onto a map (e.g., Google Map, etc.)
● Create a draft tour itinerary, including travel time, load in, sound checks, start times, and
off days
● Consult Herstand for recommendations on ideal travel times between destinations
Tour E-newsletter
● Create a newsletter announcing your artist’s pre-tour shows (aka, the warm-up gigs in
their hometown) and upcoming tour schedule (cities/dates only)
● To keep things simple, lets all use a MailChimp template to create your sample
newsletter
○ You’ll need to set up an account
○ Read through the instructions on creating a sample newsletter for potential
subscribers.
● Once complete add both your tour route map and newsletter to your Marketing Portfolio.
