Proposing new legislation along the lines of treaties and goals. Must be in line with eu interests. If a member state is not following it, might take a member state to the european court of justice. Represents the eu internationally in supranational areas (trade and development) An impartial institutions because it is supposed to be looking out for the good of eu institutions as a whole. Parliament can dissolve this commission at any point with a 2/3 vote. Different views of the commission"s role: political (activist) vs. bureaucratic (administrative) Over time, the commission has taken on a life of its own. No longer what it was originally intended to be. The commission is actually pretty streamlined-> rely on expertise from outsiders. But do not have the expertise to judge which information is best.
