Third trimester: age of viability: 22-26 weeks. Teratogens: any environmental agent that causes damage during the prenatal period: drugs, dose. Larger over long time periods have more negative effects: prescription, nonprescription. Infectious disease: rubella=german measles, hiv, rh factor incompatibility, mother is rh negative (lacks rh blood protein) and infant is rh positive or visa versa, age blue=highly sensitive, green=less sensitive. Stage 1: dilation and effacement of cervix, transition (frequency and strength of contractions are at their peak and cervix opens. Apgar scale: assesses the infant"s physical condition by rating 0, 1, 2, on five domains: appearance, pulse, grimace, activity, respiration. Apgar score higher than 7 is good health. Complications: oxygen deprivation (anoxia, color is off in skin, breech position (feet first, rh factor incompatibility. Interventions: fetal monitoring, track baby"s heart rate during labor, medication, analgesics. Block sensation: cesarean delivery, 30% of us births. May be appropriate weight for length of pregnancy.
