Document Summary

Nature of implicit memory is such that it cannot be volitionally recalled and stated. Paradigms must push participant to activate and use implicit memory automatically. Ex: use information learned before to help you on a task. Seeing a list of words and then guessing what word may appear through letters. Priming effects: ease of processing improves memory accuracy (access implicit knowledge) Perceptual priming: repeated presentation of a stimulus leads to easier processing of its perceptual features. Doing a task with words you don"t know then you have to do it based on what you see. Shown words in a list and then there are words that are shown and you have to recognize them when the dots are gone. Conceptual priming: repeated presentation of a stimulus leads to easier processing of conceptual features. Participants see a string of letters one at a time and say whether it is a word in a language.
