Document Summary

Arises from nerve roots l2, l3, l4. Sits superficial to iliopsoas in the anterior thigh. Innervates the muscles of the anterior thigh except for tensor fascia lata: muscles innervated, sartorius, quadriceps femoris, iliacus, portion of pectineus. Gives off the anterior femoral cutaneous (l2, l3) Many branches of the femoral nerve go to muscles and skin: femoral branches, saphenous nerve (l3-l4) Travels with femoral artery and vein into adductor. Does not pass through the adductor hiatus. Supplies cutaneous innervation and sensation to the medial foot along the medial longitudinal arch: obturator nerve. Supplies motor innervation to medial muscle of the thigh: muscles innervated, adductor longus, adductor brevis, adductor magnus (anterior head, portion of pectineus, obturator externis, obturator gracilis. Becomes cutaneous in the medial thigh before terminating: lateral femoral cutaneous. Sits on the iliacus in the pelvis.
