Document Summary

Black women were the bottom of two different power dynamics. Being both of these was being the bottom of everything. She did not see her face reflected in society-> books, movies, intellectual readings. During her time period black women began writing books and now they"re used in our curriculum. That change is even occurring during our generation. Big movement that black women can be smart and beautiful. Demanding respect to be seen as equal. The idea that you can assimilate into the power structure is just not possible. Creates a perspective that says okay it"s the system that needs to change, not us. Living at these intersections gives you the ability to see all of these wrongdoings. But then you"re expected to teach these people with privilege. Unwillingness to comprehend or understand something that is not similar to yourself. People want to assume that if we just address gender, then all problems will be solved.
