Everyone is an intuitive psychologist: thus everyone thinks they know what is true about human nature. Hypothesis of a relationship among the variables. Operationalization- translation of the hypothesized variables into something measurable and manipulatable. Manipulation of one set of variables in order to assess effects on other variables. Any alternative variable that could potentially explain differences between groups. Tries to correct for ways that an experimenter or participant could influence the results to fit the hypotheses. Research ethics- take into account the negative impact it may have on the participants. Ensure that the benefits of the study outweigh the costs.
