BIOL-UA 12 Lecture 19: Lecture 19
Document Summary
Lecture 19: senses, movement and behavior: myelinated axons in the brain are the white matter (inside). The grey matter is composed of the cell bodies. In the middle, there is a cavity where there is cerebrospinal uid. In the spinal cord, the white matter is on the outside: more than a collection of neurons: Each single celled organism can respond to stimuli in its environment. Animals are multicellular and most groups respond to stimuli using systems of neurons. Nerves: are bundles that consist of the axons of multiple neuron cells: in the brain, there are more than just neurons; there are many support cells. Echinodermata have a nerve ring; the beginnings of a brain, and radial nerves: nervous systems: complex organizations: Sympathetic (involuntary responses corresponding to nervousness or excitement). Stress; nerve signals along nerve cell; spinal cord; adrenal medulla secretes epinephrine and norepinephrine. (sympathetic). Sensory receptors transduce stimulus and transmit signals to the cns.
