It was a time of peace (b/w the xiongnu through appeasement-had to do this because lost battle) Conquered areas but allowed them to be independent (under sphere of influence) Established silk road along great wall secure borders, helped trade, cultural diffusion (helped buddhism spread) Civil service exams- (no longer dependant on inheritance) exam that had ot be taken to get government jobs. Promoted equality, education, loyalty, social mobility (2nd and 3rd classes could take it)
