Desert inhabitable, limited trade and where the civilization could settle. Nile created egypt, made it accessible for trade and for king to travel to different districts, allowed the to farm and gave them their religion. Due to nile egyptians created technology like ploughs, shadufs and irrigation. Peasants and farmers and others in lower classes if unable to pay taxes were not tolerated and were severely punished.
