Harappan culture existed along the indus river in present day pakistan. Irv cities disappeared around 1,000 years later when aryians show up. Cities were part of larger socioeconomic networks and interacted with other peoples and cultures. Harappan socioeconomic integration-small communities became cities in 2500 bce (integration) Living near indus river was beneficial for the same reasons it was beneficial fro mesopotamia and egypt (resources of food and water, fertile soil, irrigation/public works, religion, easy for main ruler to travel to different regions ) Challenges of living in this area: hot climate, mountains had passages in which invaders could come through, terraced fields for agriculture. Trade (methods: river boats, animal-pulled carts) :imports: gemstones, gold, silver, textiles. Sesame seeds, dates, and grains: raw materials: wood, cotton, livestock, copper, ivory, and shells, finished goods: beads, ornaments, tools, and pottery.
