Romanesque vs. gothic architecture: romanesque: fortresses w/ thick walls and towers, no windows, dark + gloomy churches, gothic architecture: huge stained glass windows, more light (more god- like) Other advancements in learning/philosophy (aquinas: st. thomas aquinas came up with the idea of scholasticism. People had a problem that aristotle"s work had no reference to god. Aquinas changes this and creates scholaticism: scholatism was a reason to support catholocism. Fewer peasants leads to more demand for goods, so they were payed better. Humanism; patrons; medici family: patron: wealthy people who supported the arts and learning. They were extremely important in the renaissance because they funded the creation of lots of art and knowledge (esp. art)
