European trade with the east before the age of exploration. Most trade with the east was done by land. Land routes were expensive: moved from caravan to caravan, as they changed hands, prices increased, by the time products reached europe very few people could afford ot buy them land routes were very dangerous, robbers and criminals. Why did ottoman capture force europeans to find alternate route: they raised the taxes and prices of the products too high for most people, but the people still wanted the products, forcing them to try other ways. Muslims taking over a trade hub right after crusades served as punishment to. Consequences of the new sea routes to asia problem of high prices of good was solved over sea was faster and cheaper and safer. More asian products going into europe led to competition amongst countires to see who would find next route and economically benefit.
