Massachusetts bay colony was a puritan colony , member of puritan church religious differences were not tolerated those with different religious views were persecuted. John wintrop imagined a society they build where religion is accepted: governor seemed like an editor; theocracy, can"t separate religion from government. Puritans believed that the church should be involved in the state, and they persecuted other religions. Pilgrims would not let anymore into their settlements, which is a form of religious persecution.
