If we think about what it means to be public, we must also think about what it means to be private. Media has changed the nature of our experience of privacy. Privacy: a ow of information; different ways that information moves around. The claim of individuals, groups, and institutions to determine for themselves when and how information about themselves becomes public knowledge and what is communicated about them. The notion that privacy is physical: in your home, you have an expectation of privacy. There is a shift in thinking from believing that your home is private to believing that your phone is private. Part of what we produce and consume is information. Information is not a uniform category, but something we understand in contextual terms.
