Weaver"s job was to attract affiliates & get more people to buy tvs. Experimental in programming: live, anthology series, spectaculars, color tv, Tht programming - all live programming in order to make people watch nbc throughout the day - to create habitual viewers throughout the entire day. Tv can educate & uplift everyone culturally. 1960s was about cutting costs made during the 50s. Programming schedule of meat & potatoes - the basics; nothing special. More stability & predictability in programming & cost. Pushing for more action in the telefilms. Described tv as a vast wasteland during the 60s. Doesn"t see any programming of real value. Call for more public service, educational or avant garde programming. A lot of documentaries came out during the 60s due to the call for more public interest/service programming. Discussed social problems in the us (ex. civil rights movements)
