This is the type that you want. Would be an extension of the telephone. Seen as an extension/advancement of the radio. Manufacturing plants were geared towards making things for the war effort. Television was not going to enter the market during the war years because the gov"t took over plants and what they were going to manufacture and for what. 1944-1948 - programs on tv that people would see in public. Not yet a domestic object, a public object. Watch tv publicly in bars and other public spaces. To create interest for tv for people to want to eventually buy one of their own. Early tv was a lot of sports coverage. First a radio show then became a broadcast tv show from 1948-1956. One of the first successful examples of american television broadcasting. Proved that people would watch broadcast tv shows. Wouldn"t work on radio because you can"t see it. Need to learn lines for every week.
