Sequence- repeated musical (melodic) patterns, which starts on different pitches. (can ascend and descend) Keyboards or low string instruments would keep it. Round- 1 melody that occurs simultaneously in multiple voices at different times. (row, row, row your boat). Canon- 2+ melodies are entered in every voice in the same chronological order. Fugue- the most complex form of polyphony based on imitation- subject (main idea of a fugue) can occur anywhere, at anytime. Theme- a musical idea in which you hear all the time in different ways. Ostinato- repeated melodic or rhythmic figure; known as the ground bass when in the bass line. Stops- the buttons on an organ that controls the pipes. Swell box- a shutter that controls an organ"s dynamics. Playing many keys can also change an organ"s dynamics. Toccata- is a piece of music that always is written for a clavier player, always virtuosic, and always sounds improvised. Make a new key your temporary home base.
