Provide health care to newborns through adolescence: neonatal (birth to 28 days, newborns (28 days to adolescence 21 y/o) Provide care to healthy children, acutely ill children, chronically ill children. Provide care in a variety of settings: hospitals (picu, nicu, newborn nursery, ed, radiology), outpatient clinics (specialty and primary care), home health, schools (daycare centers, camps: pediatrics nurses in radiology (mri, ct, etc) To monitor (sedation respiratory depression may occur) Involves caring for the child, the family, the community. Includes: health promotion, health maintenance (disease and injury prevention), acute and chronic health care and end of life care. Understanding the unique anatomical, physiological and developmental differences among neonates, infants, children, and adolescents, as well as the needs unique to the growth and development of children who have chronic conditions and their families. The ability to care for children and promote their health in the context of their families.
