Not one-to-one relationship between iq and grades, income, job. Iq likely does not capture all aspects of intelligence. Fails to represent environmental factors that influence iq. We can take into account nested layers of influence of environment and how they influence developing child. Some far away layers indirect impact. Smallest nested structure, most immediate microsystem. Immediate environment (school, interaction with peers, teachers) Also inside the child, biological processes, hormonal changes, physical growth. Interactions between the things surrounding individual (characters of microsystem) Relationship between parents and teachers, family members and peers. Ex. parent"s workplace (if parent goes has stress at work then it influences behavior at home) Four core nested structures change over time. Ie. historical changes in policies causes changes in macrosystem. Polygenic multiple genes causing a trait. Multifactorial many genes and environment causing a trait. Unlike height which has adapted to the environment, we think that more intelligence is better.
