One side of the brain controls the opposite side of the body. Each hemisphere is dominant for particular behaviors ("functional specialization") Lh and rh work together even though they"re functionally specialized. Observe behavior and examine brain at autopsy (lesion study) Ventroposterior region of the left frontal lobe (put your finder just above your left temple). Nonaffluent, effortful production with syntactic deficits (language consists mostly of nouns) Problems with comprehension, not limited to expression. Evidence for problems in rapid processing of complex syntax. Production is fluent, but not always meaningful. Attempts to break down a language task into different steps and then identify the brain areas associated with each task. Surgical procedure used to cure epilepsy where the hemispheres are disconnected by severing the corpus callosum. Patients can easily identify, and name pictures and words presented to the right visual field (processed by the left hemisphere).
