There is a huge emphasis on gender roles entering the new world: ideas such as women are meant to clean, have children, attend to domestic needs, etc. Many women are literate during this time due to the puritan requirement to read the bible. All of bradstreet"s poems were published without her permission. A poet"s pen all scorn i should thus wrong, For such despite they cast on female wits. If what i do prove well, it won"t advance, They"ll say it"s stol"n, or else it was by chance. All (line 3) is the object moved to the beginning of the line when it should be towards the end of the line this is done or meter/feet. This whole stanza is essentially one running idea/sentence.
