You should know the difference between the rocky and appalachian mountains. Rocky mountains: western mountain chain of the united states and canada. They extend 3000 miles from alaska to new mexico. 80 million years old. many of the peaks are more than 12,000 feet high. The continental divide is the line of highest points in the rockies that separates the rivers. Appalachians : eastern mountain chain of the united states. They extend 1600 miles from new found land to alabama. Peaks range from 1200 ft to 2400 ft. You should know the different physical landscapes that can be found in the north. The eastern lowlands - flat, coastal plain. running down the atlantic ocean and gulf of mexico. The appalachian highlands - west of the coastal plain, gently sloping appalachian. Interior lowlands - expanse of mainly level land covers the interior of north america it includes lowlands, rolling hills, thousands of lakes and rivers and very fertile soil.
