ANTHROP 3409 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Tapetum Lucidum, Prehensile Tail, Mandibular Symphysis
Document Summary
January 19 & january 24: general anthropoid features, larger, diurnal, lack tapetum lucidum, orbits more forward facing, reduced snout, larger brain, fused frontal bone, fused mandibular symphysis, postorbital closure. Ii: platyrrhine = flat noses with wide nostrils, catarrhine = downward noses with convergence at midline. General platyrrhine features: small medium sized monkeys, dental formula = 2. 1. 3. 3 (most, purely arboreal, some have specialized prehensile tail, ring-like auditory bulla.
