Document Summary

2-1: kineics and thermodynamics of simple chemical processes. Equillibria are governed by the thermodynamics of chemical change: equilibrium when the concentraions of reactants products no longer change. When equilibrium lies extensively on the side of the products, the reacion is said to go compleion. Keq > 1 reactants are favored products are favored. Equilibrium can be related to gibbs free energy to determine thermodynamic favorability. The free energy change is related to changes in bond strengths and the degree of energy dispersal in system: enthalpy change the heat absorbed or released at constant pressure during the reacion. Relate mainly to diferences between the dtrengths of the bonds in the products compared with those in the staring materials. Exothermic when the bonds formed are stronger than those broken; heat is released. Endothermic when the bonds broken are stronger than those formed; heat is absorbed: entropy change used to describe changes in energy dispersal throughout a system.
