Sophocles: baby-switch (interestingly, a standard comic scenario) Rita dove: gender/racial politics of the plantation system. 1996 - premier of darker face of the earth. Louis has sex w/ slaves on the plantations (psyche) Amalia has sex w/ a slave named hector. Amalia is expected to be subservient to her male counterpart, augustus. Diff approaches to christianity w/in darker face. Delphic prophecy vs the determinism of racial status. Both oedipus and augustus are confused about who their parents are. Augustus can tell by his skin color that he is mixed. Augustus does but on good assumptions that turn out to be incorrect. Augustus kills louis - but he wasn"t his dad. The myths and realities of sexual power dynamics: protect white women and overlook what white men do. Legal point 1 - sex b/t black and white ppl was legally forbidden in many areas - even b/t a white slave owner and his female slaves.
