Dance movement and music is central to a description and an understanding of. Dance and music interconnect and reference other dimensions beyond the social arena. Dance mov"t & music pivotal to spirituality and spiritual development in diaspora cultures. A manner of communicating info is important. Dance behavior is central- constant in most aa religious practices as well as social and secular settings. The dance mov"ts have specific, identifiable features that combine w/ music, spatial considerations, color, food, and time constraints and allowing worshipping participants access to diff types of specialized, context-linked knowledge. The dances and their musical components influenced both ritual members and participating observers through energy centers of the body. Ritual dance performances are like choreographed improvisations- utilize mov"t sequences much of which are improvised artistic material but in a conscious organization. Patterns of mov"t and body rhythms are organized and integrated formulaically w/ specific instrumentation and call-and-response singing.
