The earth is 4. 6 billion years old: humans have only been here for 1 million years. The bible says that the earth is the center of god(cid:495)s creation. Galileo observed that it seems as though other planets have moons. Galileo concluded that the earth is not the center of the universe. Bishop ussher 1581-1656: calculated the age of the earth using biblical genealogies, earth was created on 22 october 4004 bce. James hutton 1726-1797: mapped geology for canal building, father of modern geology. Siccar point: east coast of scotland, hutton(cid:495)s unconformity. A contact between two groups of uncomfortable strata. Also a geologist: between geologic observations and time needed for evolution, concluded that the earth was possibly millions of years old. Naturalism the philosophy that all things arise from or can be explained by the natural world. Scientific method: observation: i see something, hypothesis: i think that, experimentation, gathering result: take measurement, do a survey, revise hypothesis: edit thoughts.
