Skin is the largest organ includes all 4 types of tissue. 2 principle layers epidermis outermost layer, epithelial tissue dermis under epidermis, 2 layers of connective tissue the hypodermis is deep to the skin skin has multiple functions. Multiple functions of skin protection is #1 against microbes, pathogens, heat/cold, water loss/gain, physical damage, chemicals, uv light, makes hormones/vitamin d, use for sensation. Papillary layer, pushing up on bottom of epidermis gives rise to fingertips. Most found in reticular layer not reticular tissue (80% of dermis) Glands and hair follicles, small blood vessels the hypodermis mostly fat, large blood vessels. Structure of the dermis connective tissue, strong and flexible varies in thickness two layers.
