To call something a problem, the situation must be novel. It"s not a problem if you can recall a solution to a previously solved problem. The critical element in calling some outcome creative is that it be new. Creative thinking occurs when a person intentionally produces something that is novel to them. Novelty: if the outcome is a replica of prior work (and not new) then it"s not creative. Sometimes society values those novel products, and sometimes not, but all of them are creative products, per our definition. P(ersonal) creativity: you make/do something that is new to you. H(istory) creativity: you make/do something that is new to you and the world (like a patent or research article) Science: watson & crick and the double helix model.
