Info corresponding to external event plus info from cognitive activities in response to event. Encoding is retrieved, based on combo of retrieval cues and encoded info. Memory report is then made, based on these 2 types of info. Contiguity: how the mind acquires new associations (seeing cop lights. Bottom-up: list learning w/o chunking or adding meaning. # of trials to learn the list (original trials) He would flip over cards, trying to remember the words in order. After a delay, then counted the # of trials it took to relearn it (relearn trials) Savings = (original trials - relearn trials) / original trials.
