Social institution- enduring structure of social order transcending individuals, yet governing their behavior. Unequal childhoods- observational study, could possibly have hawthorne effect. Deviance is different than crime, some are criminal. We have changed our approach to how we deal with certain parts of society, by putting people. In the last few decades the rate has skyrocketed in jail. No one else in the world follows this same rate and pattern. As urban communities lost jobs, greater unemployment in the city areas. Crime rates in the cities went up and the reaction caused an increase in fugitiveness of activities. More prisons were built (cid:862)if you (cid:271)uild it, they (cid:449)ill (cid:272)o(cid:373)e(cid:863) 18-25 males are most likely to commit crime. 1970s and 1980s shift toward more punitive laws. Weak welfare system for handling the social problems (drug addiction, petty offending, public idleness) Violence has declined historically (cid:862)the better a(cid:374)gels of our nature(cid:863) argues that (cid:449)e li(cid:448)e i(cid:374) the safest ti(cid:373)e to li(cid:448)e.
