In all large orgs, the building blocks are positions, not people. People are replaceable inside large orgs because they merely occupy positions. Each institution and the positions in those institutions endured, west virginia and osu twice, as. Particular people are replaceable, the position is not. Ex: replace students too as they graduate, more come in and take their spots. Ex: replace faculty as they leave or quit, more come in and take their spots. The positions of students and faculty will always be there, but the people that fulfill those positions changes at large institutions. When new people join an organization, they learn what is expected of them using the formal and informal rules and expectations associated with the position they occupy.
