Income, work: housing, health, psychological, but also ongoing societal tensions, conflicts, frustrations and lack of acceptance, the western & pettit article, major growth in mass incarceration. Female population is growing: those poor and minority are very disproportionately impacted (inequality vulnerability). Some historical precedent of state sanctioned control of minority populations (is this just a continuation?: the process of being arrested/incarcerated further reifies inequality, disruption of family, the "mark of a criminal record, reifying loop on multiple levels. Implications for current tensions & inequalities: policing & prisons, land & environmental disputes.
