Monopoly on force has right/ability to use violence in legally defined instances against members of society/other states. Legitimacy power is recognized by members of society/other states as based on law/some forms of justice. Territoriality the state exists in defined territory (includes land, water, air) and exercises authority over the population of that territory. States and government: states are the institutions: courts, congress, military, government is the party/group directing activities of the sate (ex: democrat, republicans) Nation and state: nation is an ethnic community, which may or may not be synonymous with state. Political, economic, cultural, and social events become more interconnected: increase their efforts, can have positive of negative results, globalization is unevenly distributed. More than 45k international ngos work across globe. Communication now makes it possible to connect like minded people regardless of distance. There is a growing recognition of global problems that need global solutions. In any given day, trillion flows across the worlds foreign exchange markets.
