First major defeat for rome in its territory since hannibal: sent signal to other germanic people that rome is weak. Gauls come into the rome and establish this independent kingdom within. The east is still strong and deflect the germanic people westward. The huns come again but they are pushed back with help of the goths. 476 the last roman emperor is disposed. Collapse of the (western) roman empire by 500. Eventually will speak greek and develop their own culture. Will last 1000 years beyond the western empire. 1453 is when the byzantine empire collapses.
