Contract theory of morality = raional agreement=self interest (universality) Reason most efecive means to a given end (economic) Deciding the principles of jusice will be fair. Principles of jusice: same basic liberies consistent with other people"s liberies consistent with other people"s liberies (rights). Maxmin= maximize your minimum: any inequality must beneit the least advantage posiions open to all. Premise: a lying promise is not in conformity to duty. Argument: a lying promise is not according to our duty, our duty is something that must be done by anyone with reason. What is universal must entail that everyone can will it consistently . if lying is against our duty, it needs to be something we can"t do because it conforms to a universal law. If everyone willed lying promises, then no one would believe them. If no one believed promises, there are not promises, since a promise must be believed by someone (possible to believe).
