Factors affecting the relationship between work and family. Absorption: unable to fulfill family obligations, workaholic: overtime, work over family, stay at work to avoid family drama, or job requires excessive work. Time and timing: how often a person works and when. All these shifts can be supportive or disruptive. Parents can split shifts and there is always someone with the children, however; the spouses never see each other. They may not be able to afford childcare. When someone works the nightshift, marital disruption is more common. Rotating shifts are associated with lower marital quality for mothers. Shift work in working class families is associated with higher depression. When moms work evenings or nights, dad"s spends more time with kids. Rewards and resources: paychecks, cover the cost for medical insurance for family, on sight daycare for a fee, pay for a work education, on sight gym, country club memberships, boxing at concerts and sporting events.
