Animal welfare act (1996) is a federal law that protects animals used as pets, in exhibition, and in research facilities. Standards of care: housing, feeding, cleanliness, ventilation. Enforced by the united states department of agriculture (usda) Pets act of 2006- pet evacuation and transportation standards act. Sets standards for veterinarians and veterinary technicians: determines what constitutes (cid:498)veterinary care(cid:499) practice requirements, specialties, etc, what is required: emergency care, responsibilities, veterinary hospital and, enforced by state board of veterinary examiners. Pennsylvania department of agriculture: bureau of dog law enforcement. Re-written in past decade to try to curb puppy mills. Enforcement: enforcement agents (dog wardens) and police. Control and licensing of dogs: all dogs older than 3 months must be licensed in pennsylvania, dogs can visit up to 30 days (hunting, visiting, breeding, etc. ) without being licensed, license fees . 45 neutered, . 45 unneutered.
