BI SC 004 Lecture Notes - Lecture 25: Submucosa, Rectum, Loose Connective Tissue
Document Summary
Absorption: movement of nutrients across the gi tract wall. Via the blood: removal of indigestible molecules. Maintain healthy digestive system: fiber helps keep self regular, some people take fiber pills, diet too high in fiber is not good. Lumen: central space containing food being digested, hole in the middle of the tube. To protect the lining: produces digestive enzymes. Inner mucous membrane layer modified according to the digestive organ. Submucosa: 2nd layer of loose connective tissue. Blood vessels: can eventually absorb nutrients. Help transport to other parts of bodies. Nerves: part of nervous system, connected to central nervous system. Body tells you that you are hungry. Muscularis: 3rd layer, made of 2 layers of smooth muscle. Move food along the gi tract: encircles the whole organ. Part of the peritoneum: secretes a lubricated fluid, think outermost tissue that is the visceral peritoneum.
