Death of the last mughal empire was followed by the indian uprising from 1857 to 58. During all this towards the indian ocean (in the asian islands): Great deal of competition began with limited resources like spices and sugars because they were a precious commodity at the time (competitive trading began because of this and so came the different european rules over different islands etc. 2nd world war was all that really brought down dutch rule over many of the islands in se asia.
