Robert sternberg and peter salovey- 2 yale psychologists who say we must take a wider view of intelligence. Emotional intelligence: knowing your emotions (self-awareness, managing your emotions (shake off anxiety, recognizing emotions in other people (empathy) Empathy- the ability to recognize, accept, and respond to another"s emotions. The emotional truth is in how we say something rather than what we say . Metacommunication- tone of voice, facial expression, and body posture. Those who are able to read nonverbal cues and recognize emotions tend to: have better mental health, be more emotionally stable, have higher job satisfaction, be more popular, outgoing and open, better in romantic relationships. Women tend to be more empathetic than men: because it is more socially acceptable , we discuss emotions more with female children than males.
