Early behaviorists believe that personality is shaped by our early experiences which involves learning from those around us; it"s all about nurture. Erik erikson = theory of psychosocial development. B. f. skinner studied operant conditioning, a type of learning based off of pavlov"s work with classical conditioning. Operant conditioning is using positive and negative reinforcement and punishment in order to achieve a desired behavior: positive reinforcement is being awarded for a desired behavior. Sending a good morning text to a friend usually results in the same text being sent back to you: negative reinforcement is the removal of an aversive event or situation when a desired behavior appears. When you do not have your seatbelt on, your car beeps at you until you put it on. Albert bandura studied modeling, a type of learning in which someone learns how to behave from observing the actions of significant others in their life, such as parents, teachers, and coaches, and imitating those behaviors.
