Secondary emotions (self-conscious emotions: higher level of maturity needed to experience these emotions, around age 2, child must have basic social knowledge, embarrassment, guilt, pride. 6-10 weeks = emergence of social smile: when babies start to smile in response to social interactions/experiences, babies do smile prior to this but the smiles are due to physiological responses, emotional and social milestone. 4-6 months = anger and fear increase: anger increases due mainly to improvements in cognitive ability, acting with a purpose, cognitively, we begin to have more goals.
