Includes our 5 senses: touch, taste, smell, hearing, vision: vision is the last sense to develop. The movement of our bodies: motor skills, cognitive: understanding thought processes and problem solving, social/emotional: when do we develop emotions. Some at birth, some take a while. Social- focuses on relationships, bonds, friendships: how they form and mature, romantic connections later in life. They all affect and change one another. When babies start to crawl (7 months), physical changes lead to a social change. Periods of development: prenatal (conception to birth, infancy/toddlerhood (birth-2 years, early childhood (2-6 years, middle childhood (6-11 years, adolescence (11-18 or 20, emerging adulthood (18-25) A new addition to the periods of development. Characterized by having freedom of adulthood without responsibility of adulthood: college. 2 different ways to look at development: general development: examining children as a group. A normal average : such as the average age a child says its first word.
