90% of children are sexually abused by someone they know. No single factor in itself determines the outcome for children who are maltreated. Risk and resiliency factors should be viewed within the child"s ecological context. Child maltreatment is well documented to have negative impacts on all domains of development cognitive, social, and physical. Who: professionals who work with children teachers, physicians, coaches. What: any suspicion or reason to believe that a child is being maltreated: in some states, all adults, it is not your job to investigate or determine what happened. Childhelp national child abuse hotline 1-800-4-a-child for information and referral. It is not an epidemic, we are just more aware and able to diagnose outside pa. 1 in 68 children: 4. 5x more likely in boys. Rates are rapidly increasing: not more children developing autism. As a culture, we are much more aware & seek out treatment. We are able to diagnose at 18 months rather than 4-5 years.
