Gossip: talking about someone when they are not present negative and critical. Not just harmful, it"s beneficial and informative. Peer norms- what is tolerated in the peer group. Academic, good friend, sex, drugs: ex. If i don"t share, people will talk about me. 11-15 years old+ including later adolescence and adulthood. Friendships are a safe place to figure out who you are as a person: identity exploration. Loyalty- sharing parts of yourself with your friends and trust that they wont tell people and they will stick by you. Take longer to begin and more to end. Gossip- self exploration other people"s choices make us consider our own. Self-disclosure: honest and intimate- an essential part to connect with friends and sharing your emotional self. How we collect data: school setting- natural groups of children peer groups, by grade or class, ask every child to list the top 3 kids they like and dislike.
